The Ondo State Government has assured residents that ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the state will not be abandoned, as Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa intensifies efforts to transform Akure into a modern state capital.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, gave the assurance while featuring on a radio programme, Ondo Path to Progress, where he said the administration was determined to reposition Akure as the administrative, economic and social nerve centre of the state.
Ajanaku said the government’s infrastructure programme was designed to give practical expression to its vision through strategic road construction, urban renewal, improved traffic management and other critical projects aimed at opening up the capital and improving connectivity.
According to him, the administration would ensure that none of the projects embarked upon across the state was abandoned, despite the competing demands from communities seeking government attention.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa has seen the Akure Master Plan as a priority and he wants to elevate the state capital to its desired status.
“The ongoing flyover project in Akure is to reduce the vehicular challenges facing the people. The Governor has been careful in planning across all sectors, and I want to assure you that government will not abandon any of the road projects,” he said.
The commissioner added that the administration was responding to development demands from different communities, stressing that government would continue to prioritise projects according to available resources and identified needs.
He said the government had also placed emphasis on healthcare delivery, with investments in the renovation of health facilities and the recruitment of about 1,000 health workers to strengthen the state’s health system.
Ajanaku further said the administration had introduced various youth-focused initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people to become productive, including empowerment programmes and facilities for artisans.
On the state’s economic transformation agenda, the commissioner said the government was working towards reducing dependence on the civil service by promoting industrial development and attracting private-sector investments.
He expressed optimism that the partnership with the Dangote Group on the Olokola Free Trade Zone project would contribute to economic expansion, attract investments and create employment opportunities for residents.
Ajanaku also highlighted the government’s agricultural interventions, saying investments had been made in the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads to facilitate the movement of farm produce.
He added that the state had also provided fertilisers and improved seedlings to farmers as part of measures to boost agricultural production and support rural communities.
The commissioner urged residents to support the administration’s development initiatives, saying sustained cooperation between government and the people remained essential to the implementation of its development plans.
He maintained that the administration’s focus on infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, agriculture and industrialisation was aimed at improving living conditions and strengthening the economic base of the state
