A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State, Sani Mohammed, has regained freedom after 98 days in captivity.
Sani Mohammed was abducted on his first day to work as the DPO along the Kaduna-Birnin-Gwari road on June 28.
According to reporting per ThisDay, the police officer was said to have been released following payment of ransom to his captors.
Friends and relations of the DPO had in September contributed N7 million as ransom to the bandits, but the criminals were said to have demanded more money and motorcycles.

The person who went to deliver the ransom was also abducted by the criminals.
The newspaper said while the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammad Jalige, could not confirm the release, a police source said that Mohammed was released last Wednesday and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
The source told the newspaper that the abducted officer was released by the bandits last Wednesday after the payment of additional ransom.
He added that the officer was taken to the hospital following his deteriorating health condition while in captivities.
