AFN not beyond redemption, says Rosa Collins

-

One of the top contenders for the position of president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), former African and national triple jump record holder, Rosa Collins, has declared that all was not lost for the redemption of athletics in Nigeria.

Having secured a board membership of the AFN on the platform of Nigeria Association of Women in Sports (NAWIS), Collins stated that resuscitating and rebranding Nigerian athletics was her cardinal agendum.

At the Harare ‘95 All Africa Games, Collins made big headlines when she emerged the triple jump champion. Now she wants all genuine athletics stakeholders to join ranks for the onerous task of rebuilding Nigerian athletics.

“For years we have been groaning about the poor state of Nigerian athletics, but now is the time for us all who are in the sport to put in our little effort to revive it,” she said. “Athletes, coaches and administrators, it was this sport that made us who we are. So as we are looking forward to a new era, resuscitating and rebranding athletics in Nigeria is our major focus.

“Everything we are doing must be geared towards getting results and at the same time providing the athletes and coaches with excellent welfare,” Collins added.

Collins is regarded as the front-runner for the AFN top position as she has garnered support from athletics stakeholders from across the country.

With her strong will and down to earth disposition, many are of the opinion that Collins, an accomplished businesswoman, will do well with athletics if given the chance to run the federation.
