Ado council boss flags off 5km Igumale township road, distributes motorcycles to councillors

The Chairman of Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, Engr. Sunny Oche, has flagged off the construction of a five-kilometre asphalt township road in Igumale.
Oche described the project as a major intervention aimed at improving transportation, stimulating economic activities and enhancing the quality of life of residents.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Camp in Igumale, attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women groups, as well as residents, who expressed optimism that the project would address some of the town’s longstanding infrastructure challenges.
Oche said the road project was conceived as part of his administration’s commitment to people-oriented development and its determination to respond to the infrastructure needs of communities in Ado Local Government Area, in line with the development agenda of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
According to him, the five-kilometre road would improve connectivity within Igumale and ease the movement of people and goods, particularly by linking residential areas with markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services.
The council chairman stressed that quality infrastructure remained central to his administration’s development priorities, assuring residents that the project would be executed according to specification and standard.
He appealed to residents and other stakeholders to support and protect the project, noting that government could not sustain development efforts without the cooperation and active participation of benefiting communities.
Oche also expressed appreciation to Governor Alia for prioritising infrastructure development and supporting initiatives at the grassroots, urging the people of Ado Local Government Area to continue to support the governor’s administration.
He further charged the community to cooperate with the contractor to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the project, adding that his administration’s doors remained open to complaints and constructive observations as construction progresses.
Earlier, the contractor, Engr. Gabriel, assured the council and residents of quality workmanship and timely delivery of the project.
Also speaking, the Leader of the Ado Local Government Legislative House, Hon. Agbo Adadu, said the legislature, vested with oversight powers, would monitor every aspect of the project to ensure compliance with contractual terms and adherence to required standards.
Meanwhile, in another grassroots intervention, Oche distributed brand-new motorcycles to members of the Ado Local Government Legislative House and supervisory councillors to improve mobility and enable them to discharge their official responsibilities more effectively across their respective wards.
The motorcycles, which arrived in their original boxes and were assembled at the venue before being handed over to the beneficiaries, were described by the chairman as essential working tools, particularly during the rainy season when movement across some communities becomes difficult.
Commissioning the motorcycles to the glory of God, Oche urged the beneficiaries to maintain and use them responsibly, stressing that the gesture would enable councillors to reach their constituents more easily, respond promptly to community needs and reduce the recurrent cost of commercial transportation for official engagements.
He again commended Governor Alia for his support for the local government system, saying the interventions demonstrated the administration’s commitment to strengthening grassroots institutions and improving service delivery.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Adadu expressed appreciation to the governor and the council chairman, describing the motorcycles as timely and necessary, especially given the difficult terrain and transportation challenges experienced during the rainy season.
The Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Sunday Otse Ogenyi, also commended the initiative and called for continued cooperation among elected officials and other stakeholders to advance the development of Ado Local Government.
The distribution of the motorcycles and flag-off of the Igumale township road form part of the council administration’s broader efforts to strengthen grassroots governance, improve infrastructure and provide practical interventions capable of delivering tangible benefits to residents.
