Adeyanju slams DSS over alleged targeting of Sowore’s X account

By Jeffrey Agbo

Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has condemned the Department of State Services (DSS) over its alleged targeting of the X account belonging to rights campaigner, Omoyele Sowore.

In a statement on Saturday, Adeyanju accused the DSS of abusing state power to intimidate and silence dissenting voices.

He said: “The targeting of Omoyele Sowore’s account by the DSS is unacceptable and should be condemned.

“Every citizen has the right to freely share their opinions, even when those opinions do not align with those in authority.

“The use of state power to silence and intimidate individuals because of their views is an attack on the very freedoms that sustain a healthy democracy.”

Adeyanju further described Sowore as a consistent critic of bad governance, stressing that his courage in speaking truth to power has made him a recurring target of authorities.

“Sowore has remained a victim of intolerant governments, yet he continues to speak his mind courageously.

“He is not just an activist but he is also a former presidential candidate whose commentary on governance carry weight.”

He urged the government to embrace constructive criticism rather than attempt to suppress dissent.

“His criticisms of the president or government policies must be treated with respect, no matter how uncomfortable they may be for those in power,” he added.
