The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed why the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi and former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai are yet to leave their parties and join its fold.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja over the weekend, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the two politicians will eventually join the ADC.
He added that Obi and El-Rufai are yet to come onboard because they were allowed to complete certain electoral processes within their current political parties.
He reassured the public that the former Anambra State governor and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) chieftain remain committed to the ADC coalition and would formally join the party after completing those processes.

“They were given the opportunity to finalise pending elections, including by-elections and the selection of governorship candidates within their legacy parties,” Abdullahi said.
Weighing in on concerns about the party’s internal democracy, he said ADC has no hidden agenda or preferred candidate, adding that everyone will have a fair chance in the race for the party’s ticket.
The interim spokesman also refuted claims that the ADC was facing major legal issues.
“We are confident in the legality of every step we have taken. We made sure we closed all loopholes the ruling party might try to use against us,” he added.
