Veteran Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has set tongues wagging after wading into the highly controversial topic of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), popularly referred to as “circumcision“.

Speaking during a recent appearance on an Instagram Live session with media personality Daddy Freeze, the thespian claimed FGM is “the best thing” that has ever happened to her.

According to Inyama, the procedure has been of great benefit as it helped her to control her sexual urges.

Despite highlighting this perceived advantage, she revisited the trauma she went through after being circumcised at the age of five.

“FGM is evil. You now have to deal with the consequences. I was circumcised because I grew up with my grandmother in the village. That’s the best thing that they did for me because it is helping me a lot.

“If I say I am not doing [it], I am not doing [it]. And that is the power that I have. That’s why nobody can say they’ve seen me with a man in any hotel,” she said.

However, after the interview made the rounds on social media, it elicited mixed reactions from Nigerians.

While some netizens applauded her and backed her claims, others berated her for supporting what they described as a barbaric act.
