Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) winner Josephine Otabor, better known as Phyna, has attributed her single status to a fear among Nigerian men of asking independent women out.
The reality star made this known while engaging with her fans during a recent livestream on Twitch.
According to Phyna, when choosing life partners, most Nigerian men avoid bold and confident women, opting instead for those they can control.
“I am a ten out of ten,” she said. “The thing is just that men are scared of bold and confident women.”

The thespian further explained that expressive women like herself are the worst hit because many men judge them by their social media rhetoric, deciding to avoid them before even meeting them.
“There are some women that, by merely looking at them, you know you can’t control. But our Nigerian men like women they can control,” she added.
Despite the dating challenges, Phyna noted that she is unbothered by the trend, stressing that she refuses to alter her personality to fit a man’s expectations.
“They don’t want women who have a say or are exposed. So, for those of us who are very vocal about who we are, they are already scared and forming assumptions without even meeting us. But I really don’t care,” the actress concluded.
