Video captures moment suspected thugs attacked Sowore’s team with machetes

A video clip has captured the moment men wielding cutlasses attacked presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, and members of his team.

The video shows two men, one armed with a cutlass and the other with a whip, attacking a member of Sowore’s team on October 30, 2026.

In a post on his X handle, Sowore said he had contacted the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade; the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ado-Ekiti Central Police Station, Mustapha Mohammed; and the state’s Rapid Response Squad (RRS) commander to demand updates on the investigation.

“Shockingly, the officers claimed there was ‘no complainant’ because I had not submitted a written statement, despite police rescuing the victims, taking them to their hospital, arresting suspects, and recovering weapons, stolen phones, and other devices,” Sowore said.

He added: “I questioned the officers about stolen phones electronically traced to the Governor’s Lodge and the missing CCTV recordings; they denied knowledge and abruptly ended their conversations.”

According to Sowore, the management of Tawakalitu Restaurant, where he and his team were attacked, reportedly confirmed that a DPO had returned the restaurant’s CCTV equipment, but the recordings had been completely wiped. He said the management refused to identify the officer responsible for returning the equipment.

He added: “This is an indication of a coordinated cover-up by the @PoliceNG hierarchy in Ekiti State.

“However, the newly recovered video provides crucial leads that could help identify those involved in the attack.

“Their identities and respective roles must be established through a credible, independent investigation. We therefore call for the removal of the Commissioner of Police and other officers allegedly involved in the cover-up.”
