Veteran Nigerian poet, writer, and cultural enthusiast, Chief Alabi Ogundepo, has passed away.
His death was announced in the early hours of Tuesday via a statement signed and made available to the press by his daughter, Dupe Ogundepo-Falana, on behalf of the family.
According to her, the renowned writer, who was a native of Saki in Oyo State, breathed his last on Monday at the age of 84.
His family described him as a remarkable literary voice whose poetry and writings reflected his deep appreciation of Yoruba culture, tradition, language, history, and the human experience.

Dupe further stated that his creative works and public engagements contributed significantly to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of his people.
The statement added, “Funeral arrangements and other details will be announced by the family in due course.
“The family kindly requests privacy and prayers as we come to terms with this irreparable loss.”
Dupe also noted, “Chief Alabi Ogundepo may have departed this world, but his voice, his poetry, and the memories he created will continue to live on.”
