BREAKING: Cameroon beat Malawi 3-0 to lift first WAFCON trophy

​Cameroon had earlier defeated hosts Morocco on penalties in the semi-final of the tournament to set up a final with debutants Malawi.

​Cameroon lifted their first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title after thrashing debutants Malawi 3-0 in the final of the tournament, played at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat, Morocco on Sunday night.

​The Indomitable Lionesses opened the scoring in the 21st minute of the encounter through Marie Ngah, who headed the ball into the back of the net.

​Ndjoah Eto then doubled their advantage six minutes later with a sharp, swivelling finish inside the box.

​Ngah struck once again before the half-time whistle to secure her brace and extend Cameroon’s lead to 3-0.

​In the second half, Malawi improved significantly but were unable to reduce the deficit.

​Following the feat, Cameroon joined Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, and South Africa as the only four countries to have ever won the WAFCON trophy since the tournament became a full-scale
