This year’s tournament is at the semi-final stage, with France facing Spain on Tuesday, while England will take on reigning champions Argentina.

At the start of the competition, Ferdinand had backed 2022 runners-up France to go a step further and win the World Cup this time around.

However, when asked if he believes England will go on to win the World Cup after they defeated Norway to qualify for the semi-finals, Ferdinand replied: “I think we do.”

He went on to say that the Three Lions have shown more of the resilience needed to win the World Cup than other teams.

He added: “When the chips are down, and things aren’t going well, England are working things out.

“I think that is one of the things we have over the others. Argentina has managed to do that a couple of times, but they have looked closer to going out than we have.”
