2027: Adebayo rolls out vision to end poverty, unemployment, and insecurity
By Henry Nnaemeka
Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the 2027 general election, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has unveiled an ambitious vision for Nigeria’s future, declaring that the country can overcome poverty, unemployment and insecurity within a generation through accountable leadership, social investment and economic reforms.
Adebayo said Nigeria’s challenges are not rooted in a lack of resources but in decades of poor governance and misplaced priorities that have prevented the nation’s vast human and natural wealth from translating into improved living standards.
Speaking on his plans for the country, the SDP flagbearer argued that Africa’s largest economy possesses the capacity to achieve rapid transformation if government focuses on productivity, education, infrastructure and job creation.
“The environment itself disproves the notion that Nigeria is poor. What we are dealing with is the consequence of leadership failure, not a shortage of resources,” he said.
The former presidential candidate, who is making a second bid for the presidency after contesting in 2023, said his administration would prioritise the implementation of Chapter Two of the Constitution, particularly provisions relating to the welfare, security and economic wellbeing of citizens.
At the centre of his economic programme is a commitment to pursue full employment, which he described as the foundation for solving many of Nigeria’s social and economic problems.
According to Adebayo, an SDP administration would seek to create 30 million jobs through investments in agriculture, manufacturing, technology, entrepreneurship and industrial development.
“Once you achieve full employment, many other problems become easier to solve,” he stated.
The SDP candidate outlined a five-point governance framework anchored on accountable leadership, increased productivity, transparent market rules, an independent judiciary and job creation.
He also identified Nigeria’s estimated infrastructure deficit as a major opportunity for economic expansion, calling for increased local and foreign investment in roads, power, digital infrastructure and industrial facilities.
Adebayo argued that Nigeria can become Africa’s leading investment destination if government guarantees the rule of law, protects property rights and strengthens public institutions.
On youth development, he pledged to address the out-of-school children crisis, establish entrepreneurship and innovation hubs, modernise agriculture and equip millions of young Nigerians with skills in technology, environmental sustainability and emerging industries.
He stressed that national development begins with investment in education, healthcare and human capital, insisting that government must focus on building productive citizens rather than merely managing poverty.
Adebayo also promised expanded opportunities for women through targeted entrepreneurship and empowerment programmes aimed at increasing participation in economic activities.
Reflecting on his political philosophy, the SDP leader said his commitment to social democracy dates back to the early 1990s when he joined the party as a student after embracing its emphasis on education, healthcare, housing and infrastructure development.
He maintained that Nigeria’s fortunes can be reversed through competent leadership, transparent governance and policies designed to expand opportunities for ordinary citizens.
“We have clear systemic problems that require practical solutions. Nigerians deserve a government that works for them and delivers results,” he said.
With political activities gradually gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Adebayo is positioning himself and the SDP as an alternative platform focused on employment, social welfare, institutional reform and inclusive economic growth.
