Corporate icon, Ernest Ndukwe, hails Senate on state police

Renowned technocrat Dr Ernest Ndukwe has commended the Nigerian Senate for  passing the Bill for the establishment of State Police.

Ndukwe, who has been unrelenting in his advocacy for State Police as a panacea for the seeming intractable insecurity in the country, noted that the House of Representatives had earlier thumbed up the State Police bill.

He therefore applauded the collective resolve of both chambers of the National Assembly to bring to fruition the State Police bill.

He specifically commended the leadership of the National Assembly for harkening to the voice of reason and acting in the national interest.

Ndukwe, who is the Chairman of MTN Nigeria and a former Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), expressed optimism that the State Police bill will receive concurrence from the various State Houses of Assembly as stipulated by the Nigerian constitution.

He noted with delight that the bill passed by the Senate is not only historic but has the required safeguards to insulate it from wanton abuse by misguided individuals and state institutions.

He urged Nigerians to forge a common front in ensuring the actualisation of the bill, which he is confident will get the assent of President Bola Tinubu, whom he observed has remained very supportive of the clamour for State Police.

It will be recalled that the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday unanimously passed the State Police bill.

The passage of the bill by the Senate has continued to receive much acclaim from a cross section of Nigerians who see in it a practical solution to the prevalent security challenges in most parts of the country.
