Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has affirmed that he remains a member of the party and has campaigned for its governorship candidate in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

He made this known on Wednesday while addressing journalists in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.

The former Anambra State Governor, however, added that candidates of other parties taking part in the off-cycle election are his friends.

Obi went on to say that his foremost concern is for a free, fair, and credible election during the November 8 poll.

He further urged all the governorship candidates to place the state’s interest above personal ambition as they head into the poll.

While addressing newsmen, he said:
“For this election, my party is Labour Party. I want a free and fair election. All the contestants are my friends.

”As a member of Labour Party, I am supporting our candidate, but not to the extent of vote buying because I can never buy votes.

“I cannot go to the extent of doing anything untoward for the election. I want the election to be totally free and fair. I’m not on the ballot, and I believe that all those contesting are related to me one way or the other.

”Let Anambra people decide who will be their governor. People should not indulge in vote buying. I’m not against any of them.”

Obi also noted that he left office as governor 12 years ago, stressing that he has no personal interest in the election and insisting that the people of Anambra must be allowed to freely choose their next leader.
