Gov Eno speaks on struggle with albinism, says ‘I faced bullying, body shaming’

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has revealed that he was bullied, body shamed and rejected while growing up with albinism.

He made this known on Friday in a heartfelt post on his X handle, while sharing his experience with netizens.

According to the governor, the struggles shaped his outlook on life and strengthened his resolve to stand proudly today.

Gov Eno went on to attribute his survival and success in life to God’s grace.

Speaking via his verified social media page, he wrote, “Growing up with albinism wasn’t easy; I faced bullying, body shaming, and rejection. But today, by God’s grace, I stand proudly.

“That’s why whenever I see anyone with this skin condition, I make it a point to honour and recognise them.”

Eno began his career at Union Bank, where he worked for some years before moving to Bertola Machine Tools Nigeria Limited.

He then joined Norman Holdings Limited, where he became the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) before setting up his own company, Royalty Groups.

He was later appointed as the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources by former Governor, Udom Emmanuel.

In May 2023, he was sworn-in as the 5th democratically elected governor of Akwa Ibom by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Ekaette Obot.
