Some 2,000 Nigerians died violently North and South between January and March 2025 (Q1 2025), according to data compiled by SBM Intelligence, with reported fatality figures escalated by terrorist murderers in the North East and North West.

The causes of death range from attacks by terrorists, armed robbers, Boko Haram, abductions, to gang clashes, and military operations.

SBM latest chart paints a grim picture of insecurity nationwide. Of the total fatalities, 892 were civilians, the most affected group.

The figure also includes 462 terrorists, 234 Boko Haram members, 119 vigilantes, 110 soldiers, and 24 policemen.

Up to 136 security personnel, comprising NSCDC officers, police and soldiers, lost their lives in the quarter.

Borno topped the list of states with 515 reported killings, followed by Zamfara (408) Katsina (155), Benue (101), and Niger (68).

Relatively safer Southern states like Anambra, Edo, and Ondo recorded between 58 and 63 deaths each, a sign that violence is spreading across the country with no region spared.
