Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy has rejected calls for an immediate ceasefire in the ongoing war between his country and Russia, saying there must be “security guarantees” first before such can happen.

According to the Financial Times, Zelenskyy believes that it would be a “failure for everyone” if hostilities ended without clear security guarantees in place.

He made this known on Sunday while addressing reporters on calls to end the war after a significant meeting with over a dozen European leaders.

Speaking with journalists after the parley he said, “We must be open.”

Zelenskyy added, “If you don’t have an end to the war and you don’t have security guarantees, no one is able to control a ceasefire.”

His meeting with leaders of the European Union (EU) is coming a few days after a tense disagreement at the White House that surprised US allies.

Kemi Badenoch calls Zelenskyy a ‘hero’ after clashing with Trump

During the meeting with the US President at the Oval Office, Trump
berated Zelensky, telling him to be more “thankful” and saying, “You’re in no position to dictate what we’re going to feel.”

He also told the Ukrainian president that he either “make a deal” with Russia “or we’re out.”

Despite this, President Zelenskyy has continued to secure overwhelming support from world leaders since the clash.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president later wrote on X that his country is ready to sign minerals agreement with the U.S.

Ukraine and Russia have been fighting for the past three years and many casualties have been recorded on both sides.
