No indication Osinbajo has left politics – Ex-aide Akande

By Jeffrey Agbo

Laolu Akande, former spokesperson to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has dismissed assumptions that Osinbajo has exited politics or resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, Akande clarified that Osinbajo remains a member of the APC and has not communicated any intention to leave politics.

Speculation about Osinbajo’s political future arose after his absence from the political scene since leaving office in 2023. This followed his loss to President Bola Tinubu in the 2022 APC presidential primary. Some believe his retreat from active politics is linked to his recent appointment as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP).

Akande emphasised that Osinbajo would participate in APC events whenever required, adding that any assumptions about his political departure are unfounded.

“I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC. He is still a member of APC.

“If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there,” he said.
