CAF in a statement on Monday, also promised to take appropriate action against those who violated its laws

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has said it is investigating the troubling ordeal faced by Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, at a Libyan airport.
Prior to this, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had announced that the Super Eagles pulled out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Libya.
According to the football body, it took the decision after a frustrating 12-hour ordeal the Nigerian team and it’s crew faced at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya.
Speaking on the development, CAF via a statement on its website said it will take immediate steps to engage both Libyan and Nigerian authorities, following reports that the Super Eagles and their technical crew were left stranded under distressing conditions for several hours.
It also noted that the incident is now under investigation by CAF’s Disciplinary Board.
It further promised to take appropriate action against those who violated its laws.
The African football governing body wrote, “CAF Views the Disturbing and Unacceptable Experiences of the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) at an Airport in Libya in a Very Serious Light.”
It added, “The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it was informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘Super Eagles’) and their technical team were stranded in distressing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land at by the Libyan authorities.
“The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation, and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations,” it read.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have arrived at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano State, after their ordeal in Libya ahead of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
