Police also identified cases of shady financial dealings and other corrupt practices during the recruitment exercise

The Nigeria Police Force has said the 2022/23 Police Constables Recruitment Exercise was marred by irregularities and alleged corrupt practices.
This was disclosed on Saturday in a statement titled, “Police Confirms 2022 Constable Recruitment Process Marred With Irregularities, Alleged Corruption” and issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
According to the FPRO, after the list released on the Police Service Commission (PSC) portal was vetted, it was discovered that Nigerians who never applied, candidates who failed the Computer Based Test, and those screened out due to medical reasons made the final list.

“Upon careful scrutiny of the list released on the PSC portal, it was discovered that several names of persons purported to be names of successful candidates are those who did not even apply and therefore did not take part in the recruitment exercise.
“Also, the published list contains several names of candidates who failed either the Computer Based Test (CBT) or the physical screening exercise or both just as there are those who made it to the last stage of the exercise but were disqualified having found medically unfit through the standardised medical test but who also made the list of successful candidates as published by the PSC.” the statement read.
The police spokesperson also noted that there were allegations of financial dealings and other corrupt practices.
“Furthermore, most worrisome is the allegation of financial dealings and corrupt practices leading to the outcome where unqualified and untrainable individuals have been shortlisted,” Adejobi added..
PSC had on June 4 announced the approval and release of a list of 10,000 successful applicants for recruitment into the constable and specialist cadres.
However, the Inspector General of Police issued a letter of objection to the list on June 10 addressed to the Chairman of the Commission, citing the discovered irregularities.
