Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Atiku Abubakar, has begged aggrieved governorship aspirants in Edo State to bury their hatchet and support the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, during the poll in November.
Atiku, who was the 2023 presidential candidate for the party made the appeal via his X handle, amid threats by the Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu to institute legal action against the emergency of Ighodalo as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the state.
He noted that the election of a thoroughbred technocrat by the PDP as the party’s candidate in Edo State signposted the urgency that the party gives to ensuring that the next governor of the state is a round peg in a round hole.
He went on to say the party made a good choice by electing Ighodalo and described him as “a fine gentleman.”

“The party has made a choice, and it is not in dispute that the choice is a good one. It is, therefore, on this note that I plead with all other aspirants and aggrieved stakeholders to reconcile and negotiate to make sure that Edo remains a PDP state.
“Dr Asue Ighodalo, apart from being a brilliant mind, in whose hands the affairs of Edo State will steer on stable waters, is also a fine gentleman.”
Prior to this development, TheNiche had reported that PDP conducted two separate primaries which produced two different candidates for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo state.
