Mayorkun says Gov Otu promised to replace his stolen jewellery

Mayorkun had earlier claimed his jewellery worth millions of naira was stolen while performing at the 2023 Calabar Carnival

Afrobeats star and songwriter, Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as
Mayorkun has revealed that the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has promised to compensate him for his lost valuables in Calabar, the state capital. 

Several news outlets had earlier reported that the “Certified Loner” crooner who was among the entertainers invited to perform at the 2023 Calabar Carnival, claimed he lost jewellery worth millions of naira while performing.

Expressing his displeasure in a post on his social media media page, Mayorkun vowed never to perform in Calabar again.

Hours after the incident, his colleague, Iyanya announced the recovery of one of the stolen diamond chains.

He said: “Thank you to the guy who brought this back this morning to THE GRAND HOTEL CALABAR. Just returned now is 1 of 2 of #Mayorkun jewelry. We have one more to go. My brothers, if you have the second one please help us return it.”

However, in a follow-up post on his official X, formerly Twitter,  Mayorkun revealed that he recently met with Governor Otu, who assured him of compensation for his lost valuables in Calabar.

Speaking on the development, he tweeted: “Just met with the Governor of Cross River State, H.E Prince Bassey Otu. He assured me that Calabar people remain very hospitable and he has also stressed that I will be compensated for my valuables lost.”

He added: “Thank you sir. Still searching for my pendant. It’s so special to me for many reasons.”
