With or without FG’s reimbursement, I’ll fix Ilorin-Kabba road — Kogi ADC gov candidate, Abejide

Abejide said the deplorabe state of the road has created inconvenience for the people, assuring he would reconstruct the highway if elected.

Governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship election, Leke Abejide, has promised to reconstruct the federal road of Ilorin-Kabba with or without reimbursement by the federal government if elected the governor.

He also vowed to provide a N1bn interest free loan for women in the state to trade in business.

Abejide made the vows in Ilorin, Kwara State when he brought his campaign to the state to address Kogi state indigenes resident in Kwara.

The Ilorin-Kabba road linking Kwara and Kogi states has not been motorable for many years with the federal government only recently carrying out repair of a small portion of at the two ends of the road in both Ilorin and Kabba.

The dilapidated state of the road has forced motorist to resort to going through longer route of Ekiti while going from one end of the road to the other.

The whole Kogi State had once been a part of Kwara until 1976 when the Igala axis (now Kogi East) was excised to join Benue and 1991 when the Okun/Lokoja axis (now Kogi West) and Ebira axis (now Kogi central) were carved out to join Igala axis to form Kogi.

Kwara being the former state of the Kogi indigenes still plays host to a huge population of the indigenes.

The indigenes who spoke at the meeting with the ADC governorship candidate complained of the inconvenience they suffer whenever they have to travel home and urged the candidate to see to how the road could be fixed.

The spokesman for the Igala people, Omede Adamu said that it takes them a whole day to travel to Kogi East from instead of about six hours that it took when the road was motorable.

He pleaded that Abejide should give priority to the road if he is elected the governor.

His counterpart of Okun, Comrade Ayo Abereoran, while hailing Abejide’s contributions to the Okun axis and the state as a whole as a representative of the Yagba West/Yagba East/Mopa-Amuro federal constituency in the National Assembly expressed hope that the politician would find a solution to the deplorable state of the road.

Abereoran said the governorship candidate is a politician that has achieved a lot for the welfare of the people of the state and expressed readiness of his people to vote for him.

Also speaking, the representative of the Ebira people, Salihu Abdulazeez, while acknowledging that the road is a federal on pleaded that the ADC candidate should influence the fixing of it.

He said that Kogi indigenes in Kwara are united and that because they are all after development of Kogi state they are ready to support the gvernorhsip candidate as they hope that he would develop the state.

Abejide, in his address, noted that the deplorabe state of the road has created inconvenience for the people and assured them that his administration would reconstruct the high way.

He said he would widen the width of the road and make some other adjustments to make it safer to ply than it used to be before it was damage.

“We are going to fix the road wether there will be reimbursement from the federal government or there will be no reimbursement,” he assured.

The governorhsip candidate who said there was need to ensure that women are empowered to ease effect of poverty in homes explaning that he is planning a N1bn interest fee loan to aid engagement of women in business for the support of their homes.

He also promised that if elected the governor his administration would pay senior school examination fee for the candidates in the state regardless of being indigene or non-indigene.
