Adeleke says he is ready to work with Oyetola

Adeleke also said he is waiting for Oyetola to call and congratulate him after Appeal court confirmed him as the duly elected governor of Osun State

The Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has said he is open to working for the immediate past governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola, after his victory at the Appeal Court.

Adeleke also said he reached out to the former governor after he was confirmed the duly elected governor of the state by the court and that his predecessor is yet to congratulate him.

The governor made this known on Monday as a guest on Arise TV Morning Show, where he claimed to have extended an olive branch to Oyetola.

He said: “Immediately after the news of the Appeal Court (judgement), I tried to reach out, I called him – the former Governor Oyetola – to let us forge ahead to move Osun forward, but up till now, he has not called me to congratulate me and I’m still hoping that he will do that because we don’t have any other state than Osun State here. So, I’m ready, my hands are open, let’s come together and move Osun State forward,”

However, when Adeleke was asked to leave a word for his predecessor, he made a U-turn, saying he never reached out to him, as earlier said.

He went on to say he was still expecting Oyetola to call and congratulate him after losing at the Appeal court.

“Well let me correct it, I did not say I put a call to him, what I said is I’m still expecting him to call me so that he can congratulate me, and if he wants to do otherwise and go ahead to the Supreme Court, he has the right to do that,” Adeleke further said.

He reiterated that he would like to work with Oyetola but added that he is not afraid to go to the Supreme Court because he knows he will win again.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, last Friday, set aside the tribunal judgment that nullified the election of Adeleke as governor of the state.

The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Mohammed Lawal, held that the current governor is the duly elected Governor of Osun State.
