Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has expressed concern over the low turnout of voters during the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
Wike cast his vote on Saturday at Ward 9, Unit 7, Obio/Akpor at 11.10 a.m. and attributed the low turnout of voters to the disappointing performance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the February 25 Presidential and National Assembly elections.

“But for whatever it is, it is still okay. You can’t force people to go and vote. But I am happy with the way it is going. The security agents are doing what they are supposed to do,” he said.
Apathy greeted the governorship and house of assembly elections in Rivers despite the early arrival of electoral materials and INEC officials at the polling units.
Wike’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, is seeking to continue its hold on the state power through Siminialayi Fubara while the All Progressives Congress’s candidate, Tonye Cole, among other candidates, will be hoping to cause an upset.
