Gadzama, Collins, others extol Tobi Amusan for breaking Africa Record

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) board members have expressed gratitude to 100m Sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan for establishing a new African record (12:41secs) on Saturday in Paris.


First and second Vice presidents of the Federation Tafida Gadzama and Rosa Collins were highly excited to hear the news of Amusa’s huge exploit at the World Athletics Diamond League where She erased her old record (12:44) for a new one.

Gadzama said it was a massive achievement by the Nigerian hurdler with the World Athletics Championship and Commonwealth games in view.

“She is in commanding form right now.The news of her performance in Paris is gladdening to the federation and we hope her thrilling form will continue even beyond the Championships ahead”

On her part, the AFN’s second Vice president Rosa Collins wants more encouraging incentives for Tobi Amusan for making the nation proud.

According to her, breaking the existing record in 100mh is not a mere achievement, adding that Nigeria should come to her aide now to maintain her current form.


“Tobi has made Nigeria and the federation proud, we should be grateful and thankful to God. As a country, we should support her effort as a top athlete to meet the requirement she needs to maintain her form. There are many competitions ahead and burning out is possible,” she said.


Former athletes also joined in praising Amusan for her achievement in Paris.


Amusan would be around in Benin, Edo State this weekend for Athletics Trials organised by AFN for World Athletics Championship in Oregon US and Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the UK in July.
