As it is customary in Yoruba land, paramount rulers are often revered by the citizens, while males prostrate when greeting them, their female counterparts go on their knees.

Such respect was displayed by some Nigerian entertainers at an event recently held in Lagos.

Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi was among prominent figures who attended the just-concluded Future Awards ceremony in Lagos.

The king then beckoned on the ‘Rora’ singer to come forward as he laid hands on him and prayed for the popular music star.

The Ooni’s royal guards, however, were also quick to stop him from reaching for a king’s hand for a handshake to avert what would have been deemed a ‘sacrilege’.

Other movie stars, such as Toyin Abraham, Adedimeji Lateef, and his wife, Mo’ Bimpe also went on their knees as they greet the monarch upon their arrival at the event, while he exchanged pleasantly with them.
