Eguavoen, Super Eagles’ Technical Director, has been appointed to lead The Super Eagles after NFF sacked Rohr

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has sacked Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr, and appointed Augustine Eguavoen, in his stead as the interim coach.
Gernot Rohr’s sack was with immediate effect, the German was in charge of the Super Eagles for 64 months, making him the longest serving coach of the team.
NFF Executive Committee also decided that Eguavoen will be assisted by Salisu Yusuf (Chief Coach); Paul Aigbogun (Assistant Coach); Joseph Yobo (Assistant Coach); Dr Terry Eguaoje (Assistant Coach) and Aloysius Agu (Goalkeeper Trainer).
According to Completesports.com, two super eagles Legends, Nwakwo KanuAugustine ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, and Garba Lawal were also appointed to provide technical and ambassadorial support for the crew.

Eguavoen who was the Technical Director of the Eagles before his appointment will now guide the team, as it begins preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) until a substantive coach is appointed.
AFCON kicks off between 9th January to 6th February 202, in Cameroon, and Nigeria is in Group D alongside Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau.
NFF’s General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi, while announcing the severance of the relationship with Rohr, thanked him for his service.
He also thanked the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for partnering with them and guiding the organisation.
“The relationship between the Nigeria Football Federation and Mr Rohr has come to an end. We thank him for his services to the Super Eagles and Nigeria.
“We also want to thank the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports for their collaboration and guidance all through,” Sanusi said.
Eguavoen, a former Super Eagles defender, was in charge of the team when it finished in the third position at the Africa Cup of Nations, held in Egypt in 2006.
As a player, he was the on-field captain who lifted the Cup, when the Super Eagles won the competition for the second time 27 years ago in Tunisia.
