The Super Eagles of Nigeria have landed in Cotonue for the African Nations Cup qualifier against the Squirrels of Benin Republic at Porto Novo on Saturday March 27, 2021.
The Super Eagles, who went by boat, left Falomo, Lagos by 9am on Friday, arived Porto Novo by 3.00pm before embaking on a 16-mile journey by road to Cotonuo, where they are lodged in a hotel.
They will return to Porto Novo on Saturday to play the match by 5pm.
On the more than seven-hour journey from Lagos by boat, the Super Eagles imagemaker, Babafemi Raji, said that they players enjoyed the cruise, stressing that what mattered was that they were in the West African country to play the game by 5pm on Saturday.
Also, the head of the Nigerian delegation to Benin, and Vice Chairman of Nigerian Fooball Federation (NFF), Mr Seyi Akinwumi, confirmed the arrival of the Super Eagles to Benin Republic.
He did not say why the national team of Nigeria went on the torturous journey to Benin Republic when they would have gone by air in less than 45 minutes from Lagos.
Meanwhile, as many Nigerians are skeptical of the performance of the Super Eagles in the match because of jetlag, Beninois are already seeing victory for their team, the Squirrels.
For instance, a Beninoi, and former goalkeeper of Kano Pillars and Enyimba FC, Mr. Michael Fabiyi, said that the Nigerian team would lose the game by 0-1.
He pointed out that the Squirrels have not lost at home in the last eight years.
