DPR seeks fast tracking integration of domestic gas market

-

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has sought for  fast tracking a full integration of the domestic gas market hubs into the Nigeria Gas Transportation Network Code (NGTNC).

The project was an initiative of the Federal Government and announced by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Timipre Sylva, which went  live August 10, 2020.

The agency said this will also ensure optimal impact in the country’s domestic gas market.

In a statement signed by Head, Public Affairs, DPR, Mr. Paul Osu  in Lagos, the Director, DPR, Mr. Auwalu Sarki, made the commitment at the recent flag off of the NGTNC.

He noted that leveraging on the potentials of Nigeria’s current gas reserve base of 203.16 trillion cubic feet, that it will be necessary to use the instrumentality of the network code transparent open access towards activating critical gas market performance enablers.

He explained further that the move will enable availability and delivery of gas throughout Nigeria.

According to him; “this is to ensure gas availability and delivery across the country”.

Sarki, however, pointed out that as part of the operationalisation process of the NGTNC, the oil and gas regulator had set up a Network Code Electronic Licencing and Administration System (NCELAS) portal on its website.

He also buttressed that the portal would process all licences required for operating gas transportation arrangements and administration of all regulatory roles required for the optimal performance of the network code.
