The Obaship tussle rocking the University Community of Akungba-Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo state has raised its ugly head as the Regent of community; Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon has been adopted by unknown men of the underworld.
Kidnapped along with the regent are two of her aides at the Oba Akoko Community axis along Owo- Ikare road on her way to the town from official engagement last Tuesday
The hoodlums were said to have used a car belonging to Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko in the said operation.
Peace has eluded Akungba Community since 11 years following the demise of Oba Adekanye Omosowon as kingmakers could not agreed on who should become the Traditional rule of the community.
Princess Omosowon is the third Regent of the town following the removal of her predecessors over the allegation of insubordination to the traditional institution.
Trouble has started in the community when the regent was said to have urged kingmakers and traditional Chiefs of the town in a public function to start preparing their mind for the installation of a new traditional ruler for the community as she has concluded in her mind to return to her base in Lagos where her family members reside.
The 45 years old regent was said to have forcefully taken into a car by unknown gunmen and her two other aides including her driver and were driven to an unknown place. They were said to have been beaten to pulp before they were driven away.
However, sensing danger, Akungba the community immediate held an emergence meeting and called security agents in the state to help the community ensure the unconditional release of their monarch.
Also, religious leaders and spiritualists in the town have commenced prayers and rituals for the release of the abducted regent.
The source however said that the kidnappers have established contacts with the community and demanded a ransom of N20 million for her release.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Ondo state command, Mr Wole Ogodo while confirming the incident said the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Isaac Eke had led senior Police detectives to Akungba -Akoko to ensure the release of the regent and her two aides.
Ogodo assured that the Police would in no distant time ensure the release of the kidnapped people, adding that the state Police command had swung into action since the incident was reported to the Police.
