Senator representing Delta Central, Ovie Omo-Agege, has been elected the Deputy President of the 9th Senate.

He defeated candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was seeking a record fourth term in office.

Ekweremadu’s nomination was a product of last minute alliance between the PDP and some elements of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Omo-Agege garnered 68 votes to defeat Ekweremadu who polled 37 votes.
