For more than a year now, the federal government has failed to secure the release of Leah Sharibu, the lone Dapchi school girl being held by Boko Haram because she refused to change to Islam from Christianity.

Information Minister, Lai Mohammed had said in the past that talks were ongoing to secure her release. The delay has got the Senate involve.

In the April 11 plenary, the lawmakers asked the Federal Government to do everything within its powers to secure the release of the girl.

The lawmakers demand followed a Point of Order by Senator Shehu Sani who drew the attention of the Federal government to the continuous captivity of Leah Sharibu, thereby asking for prompt legislative intervention to bring her back home.

Sani also asked the government to ensure that theremaining Chibok girls are released.

Leah Sharibu was abducted along with 111 other school girls on February 19, 2018, from her school, Government Girls Science and Technical Secondary School in Dapchi, Yobe State.

The Federal Government negotiated the release of the other girls but was unable to secure the release of Leah Sharibu who was unwilling to denounce her Christian faith to regain her freedom
