The Peter Obi Media Office has warned state governors against alleged attempts to undermine the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general election, insisting that Nigerians will reject electoral manipulation and choose the best candidate.
The office said Nigerians would resist any electoral process that failed to guarantee free, fair and transparent elections, warning governors against resorting to political manoeuvring to retain power.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the spokesman of the Peter Obi Media Office, Idris Zekeri Jnr, accused some governors of making covert efforts to undermine democracy.
The statement said, “The Peter Obi Media Office has become aware of a series of covert efforts by state governors to undermine the democratic process. It once again cautions that any process that falls short of free, fair, and transparent elections will fail, as Nigerians will resist it.”
The office maintained that despite what it described as fraudulent efforts by the governors, Nigerians would choose the best candidate in the political marketplace.
“The Media Office reminds the governors that, regardless of their fraudulent efforts, they are presenting a poor product, and Nigerians will select the best option available in the market,” it added.
It condemned what it described as the increasing desperation of governors, accusing them of prioritising electoral manipulation over presenting their records of service, performance and achievements.
“We therefore condemn the increasing desperation of these governors, who, instead of presenting their records of service, performance, and achievements, are turning to electoral manipulation and safeguards for rigging,” the statement said.
The media office argued that leadership should be earned through service rather than retained through intimidation or interference with the electoral process.
“Leadership is a privilege earned through service; it is not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process,” it stated.
It added that Nigerians were determined to reject leaders who had failed to meet their expectations, describing the 2027 election as a defining moment for the country.
“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for our nation. Nigerians are resolved to reclaim their country through the power of their votes,” the statement said.
The office further warned that electoral manipulation and political intimidation would not permanently defeat the people’s will.
“Let it be known that no degree of rigging, intimidation, or political manoeuvring can permanently silence the will of the people,” it added.
Reaffirming its support for the former Anambra State governor, the media office described Obi as Nigerians’ preferred choice, citing his competence, capacity, character and commitment to national development.
“Peter Obi continues to be the people’s preferred choice because he embodies the strongest offering in the political arena: a leader defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, capable of raising Nigeria from its current condition and restoring its dignity, prosperity, and hope,” the statement read.
The office maintained that the power to determine Nigeria’s leadership rests with the electorate, expressing optimism about the country’s future.
