Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, on Friday thanked the leaders, delegates and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State for electing him the party’s flag-bearer in the 2019 governorship election.
He also enjoined them to mobilise Ndi-Imo to ensure that the party achieves success, assuring that “after several years of maladministration, help is on the way.”
Ihedioha emerged winner of the Imo PDP governorship primaries polling 1,723 votes to defeat the Senator representing Imo East senatorial zone, Mr Samuel Anyanwu, who came 2nd with a total of 1,282 votes.
Announcing the results, the returning officer, Mr Emma Nwala, expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who contributed in various ways to the success of the electoral process.
The exercise which was largely peaceful, hitch-free and transparent had over 3,000 delegates drawn from the 27 local government areas in the state participating.
The party adopted the indirect primaries with delegates casting their votes in alphabetical order of their senatorial zones – Okigwe, Orlu and Owerri zones.
Other aspirants who participated in the process were: former senator representing Okigwe senatorial zone, Mr Athan Achonu, who scored 63 votes, Prof. Jude Njoku, 21votes, Chukwuma Ekomaru (SAN), 7 votes and Mr Chukwuemeka Ezeji, 1 vote.
Ihedioha’s appreciation letter reads:
RT. HON. EMEKA IHEDIOHA CON, KSC.
My dear Compatriots,
VICTORY FOR ALL: TOGETHER WE CAN REBUILD IMO
Since I emerged the flagbearer of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, following the transparent primaries held on 1st October 2018, I have been humbled by the deluge of congratulatory messages and show of solidarity across the country. But much more importantly, I feel energised by the enthusiasm of our people in Imo State, who now know that after several years of maladministration, help is on the way.
I commend the leaders of our great party as well as all the members, regardless of who they supported at the primaries. We are one big family with equal stakes and together we shall liberate and rebuild Imo State. But now, more than ever before, we must close ranks, bury the hatchets and work towards our common goal.
While I congratulate all the PDP candidates for different positions, (Senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly), in their various constituencies, may I urge that times like this call for modest celebrations. For those who were not successful in the last primaries, there is always another day. For the members of our party, now that the primaries are over, the hard work of mobilising our people for the election ahead must begin.
The time to celebrate will yet come!
Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha CON.
Imo State PDP Governorship Candidate for the 2019 General Elections.
