Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has urged residents of the state capital, Maiduguri, to remain vigilant amid warnings of a possible attack during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
The Governor issued the security alert during a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service.
According to Zulum, state security agencies have received reports of planned terrorist attacks within the city.
“We have intelligence that two suicide bombers may be operating in Maiduguri, and we are calling on everyone to remain alert,” he stated.
Zulum explained that the warning follows recent developments in the state, noting that insurgents—pressured by ongoing military operations—may target “soft” locations to incite panic.
“Such attacks are often used as diversions when terrorists are weakened in their strongholds,” he added.
Despite the threat, the Governor expressed confidence in the security forces, assuring residents that enhanced measures have been put in place to safeguard the city throughout the festive period.
