Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum has expressed his sadness after explosions rocked parts of the state capital, Maiduguri, on Monday evening.

Zulum, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, condemned the act in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya.

He described the incident as a cruel and cowardly act which targeted innocent residents during the holy month of Ramadan.

He urged residents to remain vigilant while calling on security agencies to strengthen surveillance, particularly around mosques and other public places.

“I am deeply saddened by the explosions that occurred in parts of the metropolis on Monday evening. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and those injured as a result of the blast,” Zulum said.

“The act is utterly condemnable, barbaric, and inhumane,” he added.

The governor suggested that the renewed attacks may be a reaction to ongoing military operations targeting insurgents in the Sambisa Forest and other hideouts across the region.

Despite the incident, Zulum reassured residents that the military and other security agencies are in control of the situation and are taking steps to prevent further attacks.

He appealed to the public to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and cooperate with security operatives.

Furthermore, the governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies to ensure the protection of lives and property across Borno State.

Zulum also implored residents to report any suspicious movement or activity within their communities to the appropriate authorities promptly.
