Yobo set to replace Kpalukwu as Rivers United’s GM

Kpalukwu led Rivers United to their first league title and the quarter-final of CAF Confederation Cup last season

Former Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo is about to be named as the General Manager of Rivers United by the Rivers State government. 

According to DAILY POST, Yobo who played for Premier League club,  Everton during his active days as a defender, is expected to replace Okey Kpalukwu as the new helmsman at the club.

Kpalukwu has been the general manager of the Rivers State-based football team for over a decade and has recently recorded some notable achievements.

He led Rivers United to their first Nigeria Premier League title and ensured they finished in the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup last season.

Yobo on the other hand, was Super Eagles assistant coach at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.

The defender was capped 101 times by the Super Eagles and he donned the green white green jersey of Nigeria at three FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

The 42-year-old when eventually announced will be joining the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, who was recently appointed as the Chairman of Enyimba International Football Club, Aba by the Abia State governor, Alex Otti.
