Yaya Toure distanced himself from the alleged ‘juju curse’, which many said prevented Guardiola from winning UCL with Man City

Former Ivory Coast and Man City midfielder, Yaya Toure has denied knowledge of a ‘juju curse’ which has prevented Pep Guardiola from winning the UEFA Champions League (UCL) with the Citizens.

Over the past few years, there have been viral stories on social media about Yaya Toure’s former agent, Dimitri Seluk cursing Man City in their effort to win the Champions League.

Seluk, three years ago, blamed Guardiola for the way he treated Yaya Toure and other African players, claiming some juju men from the continent have resolved to ensure Man City does not win the European elite competition, because of that.

He said: “I’m sure that many African shamans will not let Guardiola win the Champions League in the future. It will be like an African curse on Guardiola,”

As Man City travel to the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday night for the first leg of their UCL first-leg semi-final against Real Madrid, Toure has decided to break his silence on the matter.

According to the former Barcelona midfielder, he has nothing to do with the alleged ‘juju curse’, which many said has prevented Guardiola from winning the UCL with Man City.

He said: “My former agent is being quoted by the media about a ‘curse’. Please don’t associate me with this nonsense and lazy stereotypes about African curses!? Media… move on please.

“This man does not represent me in any way. Amplifying these stereotypes is harmful.”

He went on to say he was fed up hearing the same story every year and argued he will be happy if Pep can prove those behind the story wrong by finally winning the Champions League after a long wait.
