Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Sunday joined a delegation of prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders on a consultative visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, to seek support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The delegation, led by the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, comprised serving and former political office holders who engaged the revered monarch as part of efforts to build support for Tinubu ahead of the next general elections.
The visit underscored the importance the ruling party attaches to traditional institutions and their influence in mobilising support for its political agenda ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
Among the prominent figures on the visit were former APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko; Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Olubunmi Etteh.
Others included former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aliyu Wamakko; former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha; and former Gombe State Governor, Senator Danjuma Goje, among other political leaders.
Aiyedatiwa’s participation in the meeting highlighted his presence among the party’s political stakeholders as consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Ooni, one of Nigeria’s most prominent traditional rulers, occupies an influential position in Yoruba traditional and cultural affairs, making the engagement significant to political leaders seeking wider acceptance for their electoral plans.
Tinubu’s re-election bid is expected to feature prominently in political consultations and mobilisation efforts across the country as parties and their stakeholders begin positioning themselves ahead of the elections.
