Wike plots new bombshell, even as national PDP quakes

By Jeph Ajobaju, Chief Copy Editor

A meeting of leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers was summoned on Thursday by Governor Nyesom Wike, a day after his parley with national PDP figures produced a bombshell.

The state PDP meeting is the first since the presidential primary in May which has turned out to be a chaotic roller coaster as Southerners in the party demand power sharing with Northerners.

A source told The PUNCH Rivers PDP members have not heard directly from Wike since the face off began in the national party and he is expected to provide stakeholders with information about his position and next line of action.

‘Something will soon happen,’ says Wike

Those expected at the meeting include state PDP leaders, members of the state executive council, PDP local government chairmen, and selected others.

The source disclosed the meeting is connected with the raucous in the national PDP as Wike would brief his loyalists on the position taken by his team to pull out of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), according to reporting by The PUNCH.

Wike has also scheduled a press conference tomorrow at Government House, Port Harcourt where he is expected to speak more on the feud between him and PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, especial on Atiku’s latest comment.

Atiku declared on Wednesday in a response to the Port Harcourt resolution by Team Wike that nobody can force PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu to resign for a Southerner to take his job to balance power in the party.

Wike feels betrayed following the outcome of the presidential primary and by Atiku not picking him as running mate.

“Nothing has happened yet, but something will soon happen,” he is quoted as saying.
