Wike dismisses ADC adoption, says no coalition exists
By Jeffrey Agbo
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has downplayed the recent adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by opposition figures, insisting that it does not amount to a political coalition.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, Wike argued that the movement of politicians from one platform to another should not be mistaken for a coalition.
Wike referenced the 2014 merger of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and parts of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which birthed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as an example of what a true coalition represents.
“There’s no coalition. What is coalition? You can talk about coalition when CPC and AC and some PDP members went to form another party, that you can call coalition,” he said.

According to the minister, the outcome of the recent by-elections in 13 states showed that Nigerians are not rallying behind the ADC.
“From what happened in the by-election, how can you say Nigerians are looking up to them (ADC)?” he asked.
When asked if this was why he discouraged Nigerians from supporting the ADC in the next election, Wike affirmed, “because they have nothing to show.”
He further argued that politicians now in the ADC, many of whom previously held offices, cannot merely promise Nigerians without presenting verifiable achievements.
Wike also recalled that during his tenure as Rivers State governor, virtually every prominent figure currently in the ADC had at one point been invited to commission projects in the state.
