Why I made Ikpeazu governor – Orji

The former Governor of Abia State and the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial Zone, Senator Theodore Ahamefule Orji, has said that his support to make Okezie Ikpeazu governor was for peace and equity to reign and not to protect his personal interest contrary to what people were saying.

Orji spoke during the conferment of Hero of Equity award on him by the Correspondents Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists Abia Council at Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre, Umuahia.

He said that Ikpeazu was from Abia South that had not tested governance since the creation of Abia State.

Orji represented by his media aide, Don Norman Obinna, said that he obeyed the Abia Charter of Equity that provided for rotational governorship between the three senatorial zones in the state for fairness, adding that he believed in democracy and inclusive government rather than private interest.

He thanked the Correspondents Chapel for honoring him and promised to identify with journalists for the support that gave to his administration while he was governor of Abia State.

Also, the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Martins Azubuike, described equity and fairness as quality of being fair, unbiased, just and making judgments that are free from discrimination and commended the Correspondent Chapel for honouring Senator T. A. Orji for enthroning peace, fairness and equity through the making of Ukwa Ngwa Governor a reality.

In his address, the Correspondents Chapel Chairman, Emmanuel Ugwu, said that the chapel had followed the political, social and economic development of Abia State that celebrated its silver jubilee on August 27 2016, covered the activities of its leaders as they come and go each making their contributions in the development of the state.

“We have equally been feeling the pulse of the populace at every point in time and can beat our chest to say that we know who is who and what is what as far as Abia State is concerned”.

It was based on this that “the chapel recognized Senator T. A. Orji as a man that has kept his words and stood for the enthronement of equity in Abia State hence the award of the Hero of equity. “By the honour, the chapel has indelibly underlined the need for total abolition of marginalization at asphyxiate”.

Also, the chairman of the occasion and Commissioner for Works, Abia State, Eziuche Ubani, joined the Correspondents and other well meaning Abians to thank Senator T. A. Orji for actualizing the Ukwa Ngwa Governorship project and assured that Ikpeazu would deliver on his campaign promises.

Other awardees include Prince Chris Odinaka Igwe who was given Development Catalyst award for touching lives in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state and Hon. Uko Ndukwe Nkole, member Representing Arochukwu Ohafia Federal Constituency, who was honoured for quality representation.

Our correspondent reports that Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; his Deputy, Ude Okochukwu; the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Enyinnaya Apolos; the Information Commissioner, Comrade Bonnie Iwuoha, shunned the correspondents Chapel Media Week ceremony. However the Vice President, NUJ Zone C Ikechukwu Isinguzo, former NUJ Zone C boss, Comrade Ambrose Nwachukwu, who also delivered lecture, NUJ Chairman Abia Council, John Emejor and Ugochukwu Emezue, former chief press secretary to Gov. Orji , the Chairman of Abia Warriors Football Club, Emeka Inyama, and many veteran journalists attended the occasion.
