Accord Party governorship candidate in the ongoing Ekiti State gubernatorial election, Opeyemi Falegan, has decried incidents of vote-buying after casting his ballot, warning it could mar the outcome of the poll.
He condemned the alleged widespread inducement of voters after exercising his civic right at his polling unit in Idofin, Ado-Ekiti.
He noted that votes were being purchased for as much as ₦20,000 and added that some security personnel were working in collaboration with those involved in the practice.
The Accord candidate argued that the situation fell short of the standards expected in a democratic election and condemned the conduct of the poll.

Lamenting the situation, Falegan said: “I have just exercised my civic responsibility by casting my vote in the Ekiti State Governorship Election as a candidate at my Polling Unit in Idofin, Ado-Ekiti. It was really sad to see vote-buying everywhere at 20k per vote and security agents synergising with those [carrying out the] act.
“This doesn’t reflect what a good democratic process should be. I hereby condemn this process and conclude [there is] no election in Ekiti State.”
Prior to this, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Dr Wole Oluyede, had alleged voter intimidation and delays in the accreditation and voting process at his polling unit in Ikere-Ekiti.
He noted: “The process is actually useless. People have been here for about one and a half hours, and only five people have voted in my polling unit. That’s what they do all the time, so I am suspecting that there is something wrong with the INEC process.”
