The 45-year-old President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Sunday Dayo Asefon, embarrassed himself on live television while attacking Emmanuel Osodeke, president of the Academic Unions of Universities (ASUU).
Osodeke had come under severe criticisms after he allegedly claimed that state universities were quacks. He later denied making the sweeping generalisation.
But while responding to the ASUU president’s initial comments about quacks, Asefon changed it to cracks, and continued in that mode without realising the blunder.
“I look at the interview of the ASUU president today saying that some university are crack, that some cracks university. In a country where you’re a president of ASUU, so those schools that the ASUU president refers to as a cracked university where they also have ASUU leadership. That means the ASUU chairman in that, those schools are crack!,” he said.
Asefon uttered “crack” four times in 29 seconds, putting both bodily and vocal emphasis on the word.
