EFCC chairman narrates how 17-year-old internet fraudster dazzled him with his IT skill

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has narrated his encounter with a 17-year-old tech wizkid involved in cybercrime, popularly known as Yahoo Yahoo.

Olukoyede, while addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, said the 17-year-old boy whose name he did not mention,  is a 200 level university student studying History.

The EFCC chairman recalled meeting the lad in his office and asked for a demonstration of how he was carrying out internet fraud.

He said the boy requested his phone number and with only that number, he was able to access the bank details and BVN of the EFCC chairman.

The lad also asked the EFCC boss if he could move some money out of the account as part of the demonstration.

Olukoyede said he halted the demonstration at that point.

The EFCC boss said he asked the young man why he was involved in internet fraud.

He replied that it was because his parents, who were farmers, could no longer go to their farms because of insecurity.

He also added that he has two younger siblings whom he supported through school.

The EFCC chairman said he volunteered to sponsor the Yahoo Boy through school.

He also said one of his friends also offered to pay the school fees of one of the siblings.

According to the EFCC chairman, he is looking for someone to bankroll the education of the other sibling.
