UNIABUJA law students to honour legal icon, Olanipekun, at mega event Feb 7

President of LAWSAN, UNIABUJA chapter, Lawal Ayobami, said the event is aimed at celebrating the contributions of Olanipekun to law and the society.

The Faculty of Law, University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has announced it will host a mega event on February 7, 2024, to mark the annual opening of the legal year where it would give special honour to Wole Olanipekun (SAN), a distinguished legal luminary and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

The event, which is expected to attract prominent lawyers, judges, academics, and students, is organised by the Law Student Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), UNIABUJA chapter.

Olanipekun, who has been described as a “role model and mentor” by many young lawyers, will deliver a keynote address on the theme of “21st Century Lawyers: Exploiting Law at a binding force in this Golden Age”.

President of LAWSAN, UNIABUJA chapter, Lawal Ayobami, said the event is aimed at celebrating the achievements and contributions of Olanipekun to the legal profession and the society at large. He also said the event will provide an opportunity for law students to interact with and learn from the seasoned lawyer, who has handled several landmark cases in various courts.

According to Ayobami, the event will feature a symposium, and an award ceremony, where Olanipekun will be presented with a plaque of honour and a certificate of recognition alongside the Vice Chancellor of UNIABUJA, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Abdulrasheed Yusuf.

He said the event will also showcase the talents and skills of law students in various aspects of law, such as moot court, debate, quiz, and essay competitions.

Ayobami expressed his appreciation to Prof. Yusuf and other members of staff for their support and guidance. He also thanked the sponsors and partners of the event, including the NBA, the Council of Legal Education, the Pan African Lawyers Union, and Wole Olanipekun and Co, a leading law firm in Nigeria.

He urged all law students, alumni, and stakeholders to attend the event and witness the historic occasion to be held at the Faculty of Law Theatre, UNIABUJA Main Campus.
