A UK police officer of Nigerian origin has recommended that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, and his police management team be sacked to pave the way for proper police reform in Nigeria.

The police officer made the recommendation while addressing #EndSARS protesters in the UK.

He said the brutality of men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), was just a symptom of the incompetence in the management of Nigeria’s police force.

He said the first step in fixing the decay in the system was already done – the disbandment of SARS. He then suggested that the leadership of the police should be sacked to pave the way for a proper reform to be carried out by a competent leadership.

He told the protesters that better police structure is when the police at the state levels have the powers to run their affairs rather than wait for a boss in Abuja to decide for them.

He told the protesters not to give up on their demand until the police are properly reformed.

The UK police officer said he felt the need to address the protesters because he, like them, is a Nigerian.
