Troost-Ekong says South Africa under pressure to beat Nigeria

Troost-Ekong added that the Super Eagles ‘ll try to take advantage of the pressure South African will face at home.

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong has said the pressure will be on South Africa when he and his teammates face them on Tuesday night. 

He made this known on Monday while addressing reporters at the press conference of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture.

The rivals will clash in what is expected to be a thrilling contest at the Toyota Stadium, Bloemfontein.

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw when they met earlier in the qualifiers.

South Africa and Nigeria head into the game with different ambitions.

While a win will see Bafana move closer to their first appearance at the mundial since the 2010 edition, a victory will boost Nigeria’s chances of securing the ticket.

Speaking before the game, Troost-Ekong said the Super Eagles will try and capitalize on the pressure the South African will face playing at home.

He said, “We are just focused on the opportunity ahead, and I also think the pressure is also on South Africa. We have everything to gain.”
